IMPACT REPORT – Earth Week Zimbabwe: 23 – 29 September 2024 | First Week of the One Home Journey

The first week of the ONE HOME JOURNEY in Zimbabwe, and the first ever EARTH WEEK has initiated many new beginnings – in Zimbabwe and around the Earth. Hosted by the exemplary Foundational Home for Humanity in Zimbabwe, the Integral Kumusha, in partnership with two prominent Zimbabwean universities, this Earth Week showcased innovative responses to the guiding question of the One Home Journey: “How do we transform our divided world and endangered planet into a regenerative and inclusive HOME for the family of life on Earth?”.

The Earth Week directly engaged the active participation of WELL OVER 1500 ZIMBABWEAN CITIZENS, across all ages and backgrounds, and, through them, impacted many more households and institutions.

Here we present, in summary form, key long-term impact of the Earth Week Zimbabwe:

SYNERGISTIC PARTNERSHIP: The Earth Week showcased the innovative and synergistic partnership or ‘marriage’ between an integral enterprise, a private university, a public university and a planetary movement, to have exponential and sustained long-term impact on personal, community and planetary transformation.

TRANSFORMATIVE EDUCATION: Two prominent universities were honoured as new Homes for Humanity for their dedication to transformative education and personal, societal and planetary regeneration. They are deeply committed to the cause, and will actively participate in building up the One Home UnivEARTHsity through the Integral Futures Council, and in deepened partnership at national level for local impact.

  • Catholic University of Zimbabwe, committed to personal development of the ‘inner home’ of purpose, values and character as foundational for societal transformation.
  • Great Zimbabwe University, UNESCO Chair for African Heritage, with it new Agri-Innovation Centre dedicated to agricultural innovation in arid zones based on indigenous knowledge to eradicate rural hunger and serve local communities.
  • TAPPING ON THE WISDOM OF THE ELDERS: The Earth Week activities in Buhera were build on the firm foundation of the wisdom of the Mukoto Village Head and his wife Mr and Mrs Mahachi who generously shared their stories and provided the much needed support for the Earth Week event within their community as the custodians of the area, traditions and culture.
  • 7 YEAR OLD CHILDREN’S DREAMS FOR 7 GENERATIONS: The Earth Week engaged with primary school children and teachers in Mukondomi Primary School, located in poverty stricken Buhera, harvested 7 Year Old Children’s Dreams for the Future, and invited the school into the planetary Homes for Humanity community.
  • YOUTH FOR THE FUTURE: We also interacted with secondary school children of the Mukondomi Secondary School, heard their views on the Earth Week, ignited their purpose and potential, engaged with their teachers, and invited learners and teachers to participate in the One Home UnivEARTHsity
  • YOUTH FOR THE FUTURE ENVOY: A remarkably motivated and talented Youth leader and Student President of CUZ, Wadzanai Nyakabau, was warmly welcomed as a Youth for the Future Envoy and Home for Humanity Core Team member for her own transformative journey from rural poverty and marginalisation to self-confident and inspirational leadership. Wadzanai will play a key role in activating the Youth for the Future Fellowship and peer-mentoring other youth from marginalised contexts to pursue their purpose.
  • WOMEN FOR THE EARTH: A group of over 50 women from Buhera surfaced and shared local indigenous wisdom, creativity and innovation through conscious food practices, oaering nutritious and healing traditional “Ubuntu Food”). This innovative and groundbreaking experience surfaced the profound wisdom and knowledge rural women have, notwithstanding their educational background and economic status, and lays the ground for many more such experiences, and possibly a book.
  • HOMES FOR HUMANITY: Integral Kumusha’s Nhakanomics was strengthened as a success story of Economies of Wellbeing. The immersive living in and learning with the INTEGRAL KUMUSHA demonstrated the impact a single enterprise can have on rural wellbeing. It amplified the Integral Kumusha’s outstanding work, and showcased the success and expansion of the innovative culturally rooted Nhakanomics as a viable economic model for transforming rural poverty to shared prosperity and collective wellbeing – that too, in one of the most impoverished and drought aaected district of Zimbabwe, Buhera North. Furthermore, it highlights the benefits of academic-enterprise-community partnership, as the Integral Kumusha is now becoming a rural campus of both Universities.
  • UNITY PARKS: With their potent symbolic message of unity and peace with nature and between all cultures, the three Unity Parks in the three key partner institutions lay a new foundation. Over 20 trees were planted already in this inaugural phase during the Earth Week, with a commitment to expand these unity parks into showcases of ecological restoration and cultural renewal, locally and globally.
  • LEVERAGING ON POWER OF MEDIA: The Earth Week Event had a wider reach beyond the over 1,500 people due to the presence of Classic 263 radio presenter Nyarai Mhandu who provided coverage of the entire event. This was also supported by the National Television Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBCTV) who covered the Women for the Earth and the Cookout function that was attended by high ranking dignitaries including the Minister of State for Provincial Aaairs and Devolution Honourable Advocate Misheck Mugadza who was the Guest of Honour for the function.
  • In summary, the first Earth Week sets a high benchmark of what is possible through co-creative local-global partnership. It shows how a single week of shared commitment on the One Home Journey can exponentially amplify and accelerate the collective transformation of our divided and endangered world into an inclusive and regenerative HOME for the family of life. Dr. Daud and Christina Taranhike described the just ended Earth Week as “A resounding success by any measure! And a remarkable experience and incredible journey connecting the present, the past and the future with all ages in rebuilding our broken World for a new happy Earth Home for All of Us!
